3rd EMRC annual meeting started on 20 Dec 2017

EMRC Members from Tunisia, Somalia, Iran, Pakistan, Sudan, Morocco and Afghanistan attended the third annual meeting of the constituency in Tehran.

An opening remark of the meeting was delivered by Dr. Mohsen Asadi-Lari, the Eastern Mediterranean Constituency representative at the board of The Global Fund; Dr. Asadi-Lari concentrated on the objectives of the meeting, strategic directions, GF policies, Sustainability and transition, as well as further harmonization of the activities in Eastern Mediterranean (EMRC) Region.

A brief speech was delivered by Mr. Gary Lewis, UN Resident Representative & UNDP representative in Iran; Mr Lewis focused and stated on strategic engagement of UNDP in about 36 Global Fund grants implementation worldwide, in addition to two regional grants implementation, which can soundly indicates the commitments of the UNDP for fighting AIDs, Tuberculosis & Malaria and reaching to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

 

Mrs. Aida Kurtovic, the Global Fund Board Chair, expressed her happiness to see the broad participation of members of EMRC in this important meeting, which will further help to enhance the capacity of member countries to further contribute in GF grants implementation. It was explained by Mrs. Kurtovic that the sustainability is very important and one of the priorities of the Global Fund to be considered for emerging epidemics, what should we do to become more effective, strategic and sustainable in implementation of TB, HIV and Malaria services for vulnerable population.  Finally Dr. Iraj Harirchi, Acting Minister & Deputy General, Ministry of Health & Medical Education of I.R. Iran. He praised the work of The Global Fund and implementing partners in saing lives of people around the world and expressed Iran's readiness to share expereinces and knowledge with other countries.
